01 A global world where crime, getting more and more organized, does not stop before borders, requires police forces that respond to growing international threats effectively by cooperating with each other. Population movements coming hand-in-hand with tourism and immigration demand police forces capable to communicate with non-national citizens, who they are bound to come into increasingly frequent contact. Spain?s membership in relevant supranational bodies related to security involves our representatives accessing international meetings and conferences as well as decision- making organs in a fully effective way. In view of the above, proficiency in foreign languages is a must, especially English as international lingua franca. For that reason, law enforcement bodies need to use English for their specific purposes. The Executive Scale of the Spanish National Police receive training in English language as part of their curriculum in the National Police Academy at Ávila. With the goal of internationalization set by the Spanish Home Office with rising importance every year, their formation in that language must be accurate and with clear, achievable professional objectives. To this end, the current research work provides an overview of different English teaching syllabi for police corporations all over the world, selects conceptual and practical methods, techniques and approaches from the most recent specialised bibliography and after analysing the needs of trainee police inspectors and the present programmes of study of the subjects of foreign languages at the Ávila Police Training Centre, makes a didactic proposal of its own, able to be implemented in the classroom immediately.
